The spectrum of basic cell and molecular biology at the Critical Illness and Injury Research Centre covers a broad range of research into fundamental mechanisms of cell function and disease from the molecular and cellular level to isolated organ systems.

To this end, basic scientists at the Critical Illness and Injury Research Centre apply state-of-the-art genomic, proteomic, physiological and bioimaging techniques to generate cutting edge knowledge for a better understanding of the mechanisms that underlie injury and disease in critical illness. Dedicated research core facilities for molecular biology, bioimaging and flow cytometry provide for necessary and innovative infrastructure to realize these goals and for expert training of students and other highly qualified personel.

The bridge to the hospital facilitates continuous feedback from the bedside to the bench, as well as the access to and rapid analysis of clinical samples for state-of-the-art basic research in critical care.
