In order to facilitate rapid translation between basic and clinical research, the Critical Illness and Injury Research Centre accommodates a strong group of translational scientists with extensive expertise in the development and utilization of advanced and complex preclinical disease models of lung injury, sepsis and trauma/resuscitation.

Advanced laboratory facilities provide for a unique set of analytical techniques including in vivo real-time imaging approaches to identify novel therapeutic targets in the critically ill, and to test the effectiveness and safety of new pharmacological interventions, including cell-based therapies.

Other key programs focus on the development of procedural advancements and novel diagnostic or therapeutic devices, including innovative strategies for mechanical ventilation. Many of these studies involve long-standing partnerships of our scientists with industry to further foster the translation of this research into the clinical setting.
