OVERVIEW / WHAT WE DO

The Interventional Neuropsychiatry Program at St. Michael’s Hospital, Unity Health Toronto specializes in the treatment of mood disorders and disorders co-occurring with them, such as depressive, bipolar, anxiety, stress, obsessive-compulsive, and eating disorders. We offer emerging interventional treatments for these disorders if other previous treatments, such as medications or psychotherapy, did not work for patients. Some of the treatments we offer are intravenous ketamine, nitrous oxide inhalations, stellate ganglion block, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, and other newly emerging forms of psychopharmacology and neurostimulation treatments. We strive to find the right treatment for you based on your needs, past experiences, treatment history, and personal preferences. We also investigate new treatments and digital interventions (e.g., wearable devices and digital symptom monitoring) for health care in a number of exciting research studies, which use scientifically validated methods to offer care. These research studies are here to offer new treatment options if treatments in the past did not work, as well as to improve diagnosis and prognosis of treatment-resistant mental health conditions and identify personal characteristics that will help determine if you benefit from a particular type of treatment.
