Biosafety
Oversight, training, and support to ensure safe handling of materials and regulatory compliance.
Biosafety Policies
All new hires must be registered on RFBMS and complete in-person biosafety training before starting wet-bench work. Register for training here. Annual refresher training is mandatory for all research staff. Both personnel and their labs are responsible for ensuring compliance.
Biosafety permits (for personnel and agents) must always be up-to-date.
External researchers must submit a Biological Sample Registration Form.
Safety Training
MANDATORY BIOSAFETY TRAINING
All new staff and students working in research areas must undertake safety training. Research Facilities offers a variety of training courses to faculty, staff, and students. All wet-bench researchers, students, and volunteers are required to attend an in-person biosafety training course within three months of starting work. You may find upcoming training sessions here.
CYROGENIC TRAINING
For training on Cyrogenics, you may find upcoming training sessions here, or email Dario.Bogojevic@unityhealth.to
TRANSPORT OF DANGEROUS GOODS
Staff involved in the shipping and receiving of hazardous goods are required to hold a valid Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certificate. Research Staff at St. Michael’s Hospital can obtain TDG training through N2 and Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI).
To register, create an account on the CITI website by clicking “Register” and select the organization affiliation to be “Unity Health Providence St. Joseph’s and St. Michael’s Healthcare (N2)”. Use your Unity Health email for registration. You may login regularly, not “Log in through my organization”.
ANNUAL REFRESHER TRAINING
You may find a list of required annual training modules below, organized by research stream.
IMPORTANT: Please ensure that you screenshot the final certificate at the end of your module as this will serve as your proof of completion. This should be stored in your lab’s training binder.
