Target Audience: Internal Research Community
Join us on November 24 for the 2025 Keenan International Lecture from 11:00 to 12:00 PM over Zoom, featuring Dr. Shingo Kajimura, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He will be presenting "How Do Cells Make Heat? —An Unexpected Journey into Metabolic Health".
Dr. Kajimura is internationally recognized for his pioneering research on brown and beige adipose tissue, thermogenesis, and metabolic regulation. His work has advanced our understanding of energy balance and opened new possibilities for therapeutic strategies in obesity and metabolic disease. He leads a laboratory at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center focused on the molecular basis of bioenergetics and metabolic adaptation, particularly the role of brown and beige adipose tissue in regulating glucose homeostasis and energy balance. His discoveries have revealed novel thermogenic pathways beyond UCP1 and continue to shape new approaches to treating metabolic disease.
