Bio

Dr. Elmaraghy graduated from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine in 1994, and completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency there in 2000.  After a Clinical Fellowship in Upper Extremity, Hand and Trauma Surgery, he began practice in 2001.  He is currently an Associate Professor in the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery. 

Dr. Elmaraghy has established a subspecialty practice in Upper Extremity Arthroscopy and Reconstructive Surgery and has been published in multiple peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals on topics related to upper extremity pathology and surgical technique.  During medical school and his orthopaedic residency, Dr. Elmaraghy played three years for the Varsity Blue’s Men’s Basketball team, and has continued his interest in sports medicine by acting as a consultant to a number of sports teams, including Canada Basketball’s Men’s National Team. 

Dr. Elmaraghy has also established a dedication and experience in treating injured workers.  For nearly 9 years he was a Consultant for WSIB Hand & Wrist Specialty clinic at the Toronto Western Hospital and recently concluded a nearly 20 year term as a consultant for the WSIB Shoulder and Elbow Specialty Clinic at the Sunnybrook Holland Orthopaedic and Arthritic Centre.  Dr. Elmaraghy is affiliated with and operates at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, part of Unity Health Toronto, where he has served as the former Head of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, and the former Interim Chief of Surgery.
