Dr. Ana Konvalinka (MD, PhD, FRCPC) is a Clinician Scientist and Transplant Nephrologist at the University Health Network in Toronto. She is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto and a Senior Scientist at Toronto General Hospital Research Institute. Dr. Konvalinka is the director of the Multi-Organ Transplant biobank for kidney, pancreas, and liver transplant programs at the Ajmera Transplant Centre.
In addition to providing care to adult kidney transplant patients, Dr. Konvalinka leads a vibrant and innovative basic and translational research program, with a focus on identifying molecular mechanisms and novel therapeutic targets for native and transplant kidney disease. She utilizes systems biology approaches and proteomics to enhance the understanding of mechanisms, derive novel markers and identify therapeutic targets for kidney disease.
Dr. Konvalinka served as the Chair of the American Society of Transplantation Research Network Scientific Review Committee (2021-2022), and as the Co-Chair of the organizing committee for the Canadian Society of Transplantation Annual Scientific Meeting (2021). She served as the member of the Research Operations Committee of a national kidney disease research network, Can-SOLVE CKD, one of the 5 networks in chronic disease, funded by the CIHR. She is the Co-Lead of Theme 3 (‘Engineer and Allocate Better Grafts’) for the Canadian Donation and Transplantation Research Program, a national network designed to improve outcomes for patients receiving a transplant.
Dr. Konvalinka has received international research awards, including the Human Proteome Project (2016), the American Society of Transplantation Faculty-Development Research Grant (2016) and the Advances in Organ Transplantation Award (2015). She has received national research awards including the Canadian Society of Transplantation Research Excellence Award (2020), the Canadian Society of Nephrology New Investigator Lectureship (2017) and the KRESCENT New Investigator Award (2016).
