Planning Your Systematic Review

A systematic review locates, appraises and synthesizes all available evidence to answer a specific question. It is as much a process as it is an end product. Planning your review before you start will not only speed up the production process; it will improve the quality of your review by assuring that you are attaining the highest level of medical evidence. Planning your Systematic Review will breakdown the planning process into a series of essentials steps.

Course Objectives:

By the end of the course you will:

  • Understand the place of systematic reviews in evidence based medicine and knowledge synthesis
  • Identify all the responsibilities of a systematic review team
  • Be able to form a sold, answerable question that is well suited to the systematic review process
  • Understand inclusion and exclusion criteria for articles and why you need them
  • Articulate the elements which make up a reproducible, peer-reviewed literature search

Target Audience: Staff and students with an interest in participating on a systematic review.

Prerequisite: knowledge of basic computer skills; topic of interest for a systematic review
