Veronique Miron

PhD

Scientist, Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science

Biography

Dr. Miron is the John David Eaton Chair in Multiple Sclerosis Research at the BARLO Multiple Sclerosis Centre and Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science, and Full Professor in the Department of Immunology at The University of Toronto. Her team aims to identify novel treatment strategies for neurological conditions in which there is damage to myelin – the insulation surrounding nerve fibres required for their health and function, including multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, cerebral palsy, and normal ageing. The focus of the lab is to harness the regenerative properties of immune cells and inflammation to support myelin health across the lifespan. She has won several prestigious awards such as the Medical Research Council Senior Research Award, Medical Research Council Career Development Award, the London Institute of Medical Sciences Suffrage Science Award, and the European Charcot Foundation Young Investigator Award. She is an avid champion of gender equality in research and has put in place several initiatives to improve equality and diversity practices both locally and internationally.
