I am currently a Masters candidate studying at University of Toronto’s Institute of Medical Science. I did my Hons. BSc also at UofT, doing a double major in Human Biology and Physiology. My current thesis project is investigating Aspirin insensitivity in peripheral artery and carotid artery disease patients. Our objective is to find a personalized and point of care approach to personalizing aspirin therapy in this disease population in the hopes of preventing adverse events such as heart attacks, strokes, and disease progression. My favorite pass times are long boarding, track and field, and painting.
I completed my M. Sc. thesis on the Cell culture model for studying prion propagation and anti-prion compounds at the University of Calgary in the department of Veterinary Medicine. Currently I am working in Dr. Qadura’s lab as a Research assistant. My current research is focused on the identify protein markers and miRNA expression in peripheral arterial disease.
I have my BSc in nursing and over the past 25 years in nursing I have been in cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, a cardiac rehab nurse educator, electrophysiology nurse and now a vascular surgery nurse. I have considerable expertise in providing care to patients with peripheral arterial disease and critical limb ischemia. I am the wound care specialist in our vascular clinic.My favorite pass times are spending time with family, cooking and watching comedies.
I am a biostatistician, holding two master’s degrees in epidemiology and biostatistics from University of Leeds, UK. I have experience as a biostatistics lecturer and clinical research assistant at several locations in England. I have provided epidemiological and bio-statistical expertise in research methodology and design, study protocol development, database structure, and analysis plan for diagnostic trials. My interests are in designing clinical trial protocols, observation data analysis, interpreting trends in complex data sets, monitoring performance and predictive modelling using different statistical software. Currently, I am a Research Assistant at St. Michael’s hospital cardiology research and a Project Coordinator for the Foot Care to Prevent Amputations research program.
Muzammil is currently a MSc candidate at the University of Toronto. Previously, he attained his Bachelor of Science from McMaster University. As part of the Qadura Lab, Muzammil is looking into discovering potential biomarkers of peripheral arterial disease.
