Frequency: needs to be completed only once

The Tri-Council Policy Statement (TCPS2) is a Canadian guideline for the ethical conduct of research involving humans and/or human biological materials.

New Course

Earlier this year (2022), an updated TCPS 2 course was released. This new course will be required for any Unity Health research staff who have not previously completed TCPS 2 training and are involved in human subjects research.

Completion of the new course is recommended for research staff who have completed the previous version.

FAQs

All individuals (e.g. investigators, coordinators, and any other personnel conducting research activities including students, trainees, fellows etc.) involved in conducting human research activities at Unity Health Toronto (i.e., any involvement at a site, on behalf of a site, with site participants/ charts/ identifiable data, etc.) are required to complete Tri-Council Policy Statement 2 (TCPS2) training.

For those researchers involved with human research and conducting only retrospective studies without participant contact, only TCPS2 training is required.

The online TCPS2 course can be found on the Panel on Research Ethics website.

The first time you access the training link, you will need to create an account. Be sure to set your institutional affiliation to Providence Healthcare, St. Joseph’s Health Centre or St. Michael’s Hospital when prompted so that our training records are automatically updated.

Just be sure to remember your username and password so that you can log back in and resume the course. For ease of access, you may wish to bookmark the website.

At the end of the course you will be issued a certificate of completion that you can print or e-mail to yourself for your records.

If you have completed TCPS2 under the affiliation of another institution, a copy of the training certificate must be provided.
