What to know about the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute

FAQ

  • Security is everybody’s responsibility. Supervisors should make sure staff are aware of, and following, the security guidelines.
  • Always wear your Hospital ID badge.
  • Never share your badge or access card.
  • If your access card is lost or stolen, report it to Security immediately so they can deactivate it.

In public areas, like lobbies, exhibition spaces, stairwells:

  • Make sure your valuables or personal belongings are secured.
  • Be aware of what’s going on around you and report any issues or concerns to Security.

In restricted areas:

  • Never allow people you do not know into restricted areas.
  • Tailgating is not permitted – everyone entering a restricted area should swipe their access card individually.
  • Ask questions if something doesn’t look right and report any suspicious activity to Security.

  • For iBEST residents, if you need IT support for your Toronto Metropolitan University IT hardware, please contact the Toronto Metropolitan University IT department.
  • Go to the “For Staff” page on the St. Michael’s Hospital website.
  • Select the service that you need.
  • Log in with your SMH network username to access the internal network.
  • Install the Citrix software and don’t close it while using the application.
  • All regular letter mail will go through St. Michael’s Hospital Receiving at 30 Bond St. and will be delivered to the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute by St. Michael’s Hospital staff. Mail will be delivered to the resource room/area closest to your space.
  • All deliveries and couriers should be directed to the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute at: 209 Victoria Street Loading Dock, Victoria Laneway, M5B 1T8.
  • The Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute has its own receiving dock. Deliveries for its occupants should be sent to the loading dock in the Victoria Laneway. Due to size restrictions of both the loading dock and laneway, tractor trailers are not permitted. We can accommodate straight trucks with a maximum height of 13 feet. When filling out purchase requisitions, please make sure to note this. The Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute receiving dock will be open Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Couriered packages being delivered: If you are unable to meet the courier and sign for your package, you may direct them to the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute receiving dock. A St. Michael’s Hospital staff member will sign for the package and deliver it to you later in the day.
  • Packages being couriered out: Fully prepared packages that have been arranged to be picked up by a courier can be left with the St. Michael’s Hospital staff in the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute receiving dock by 3:45 p.m. (Monday – Friday). Otherwise, FedEx or Purolator (only) packages can be brought to the Mailroom on B2 Cardinal Carter wing, near the south elevators in the main hospital and the courier will pick them up by 3:30 p.m. FedEx and/or Purolator packages going to the Mailroom should be dropped no later than 3:15pm in order to ensure same day pick up.  Any other courier scheduled to pick up a package will need to be picked up from the LKSKI Loading Dock.
  • If you need help preparing your package for the courier, please visit the logistics department in the main hospital on B2.

REMEMBER: You must update your information in the St. Michael’s Hospital People Finder to ensure that mail, deliveries or other services get to the right spot!

  • Visit the UnityNet portal and click on “People Finder”. Scroll down to “Edit My Profile” (the purple box at the bottom of the page)
  • Log in with your email username and password
  • Now you can edit details like department, building, room and phone numbers
  • Click “Save Changes” and log out
  • Regular Engineering requests should be submitted on the online web-request system.
    •  Go to the UnityNet intranet homepage: on the left‐hand side of the page you will see a heading titled ‘Quick Links’. Click the link to ‘Engineering Request’ and use your St. Michael’s Hospital ID to log in. Here, you will place requests for non-emergency engineering services.
  • For engineering emergencies (floods, electrical failure, serious temperature problems, etc.), call 416-864-6060 Ext. 5080 (For iBEST residents, dial 9 to dial out) for Engineering Dispatch
  • Housekeeping Services in the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute follow a similar schedule to 30 Bond St.; Offices and workstation areas are cleaned on a weekly basis (including garbage pickup). Common areas (washrooms, lounges, resource rooms, etc.) are cleaned daily.

  • All Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute conference rooms outside of secure areas can be booked on the central online system, Resource Scheduler. To obtain a Resource Scheduler account, please contact Katerina Vonj (katerina.vonj@unityhealth.to)
  • For iBEST Residents, once you have obtained your St. Michael’s Hospital ID Badge, access card and outlook account, please contact Katerina Vonj (katerina.vonj@unityhealth.to) to let her know that you are an iBEST resident and will be requiring access to the online booking system. She will require some information from you and then will set you up with an account. iBEST accounts will be considered external, which means you will be able to access the system on your Toronto Metropolitan University/personal computers, and be able to pay for charges with a credit card (catering, special supplies, etc.). Katerina will ask you for a credit card number when setting up your account.
  • St. Michael’s Hospital Catering functions the same way as within the hospital proper. Food orders can be placed on the central booking system, Resource Scheduler.
  • If your order is being delivered to a room NOT found on the central booking system (i.e. Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute meeting rooms in internal/secure spaces that cannot be booked online), be sure to indicate the appropriate Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute location.
  • All Unity Health Toronto employees will be able to connect to the UNITY_PRIME wireless network with their UHT network credentials and obtain access to the Internet. Please contact the Helpdesk at 416-864-6060 Ext. 5751 (For iBEST residents, dial 9 to dial out) if you require assistance.
  • Anyone who does not have UHT network credentials can also access the SMH_Guest wireless network. Please note: this network is hidden and must be added to your list of network connections manually.
  • RCF fees are incorporated in the Toronto Metropolitan University rent.
  • BioImaging and the Vivarium operate on a ‘fee for service’ model and iBEST Residents pay preferred academic rates. Invoices are billed monthly after charges are incurred.
  • Log in to ShopICT  and Select “create new order” from the Welcome page
  • Search for your their name and select it from the list
  • Enter the required account information
  • Select the “Software” category. Find and select shopICT
  • Complete the required information and select “Add to Shopping Cart”
  • Select “Review and Submit Order”
  • Review the details of your order and select “Continue”
  • Check the box beside your order and select “Submit Order”
  • For iBEST Residents, after you fill out a purchase requisition and have it signed by the Radiation Safety officer, you can then order materials using your purchase card. Make sure to specify to have the materials shipped to Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute and not Toronto Metropolitan University.
  • Drop off your lab coat and get a replacement at the Stores Department, B2 of Cardinal Carter.
