Securing adequate funding is an important part of research and academic development. There are many funding opportunities available to SMH trainees, including internal, university, government and non-government opportunities. Students should always consult with their university regarding opportunities and application deadlines.

Students who are pursuing research-based master’s or doctoral studies may also qualify for additional financial support, which are administered by the respective graduate units. Please check with your specific department, and also visit the Graduate Awards Office for additional information about scholarship and financial aid programs. Mitacs | Up to 200 senior undergraduate and graduate student, as well as postdoctoral fellows from the university can participate in research exchanges through the Globalinks Research Award pathway. Canada Graduate Scholarships – Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements | The Canada Graduate Scholarships – Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements (CGS-MSFSS) are available to Canadian citizens or permanent residents who hold a Joseph-Armand Bombardier, an Alexander Graham Bell or a Frederick Banting and Charles Best Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS) at the master’s or doctoral level, or a Vanier CGS at the doctoral level. | MSc, PhD | Up to $6,000 | 2021 |
Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships | The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship Program is intended to attract and retain top-tier postdoctoral talent. As such, Unity Health Toronto will hold an internal competition to select the most competitive applicants.
