Collaborative specializations are administered under the auspices of the School of Graduate Studies at the University of Toronto. Applicants must be accepted to a participating degree program and comply with the admission procedures of that unit before applying to the Collaborative Specialization in Resuscitation Science.
This program is ideal for current or prospective graduate students interested in:
- research related to pre-hospital or in-hospital emergency, trauma and critical care
- biomedical or mechanical engineering for improving patient outcomes and healthcare delivery
- qualitative research and knowledge translation to improve patient care and outcomes
- basic science research related to trauma and critical care
- nursing and medical sciences related to life-threatening illnesses, including cardiac arrest
- rehabilitation science for survivors of trauma and cardiac arrest
Additional Requirements
In addition to meeting the home graduate unit program requirements, students are required to fulfill the following in order to complete the CPRS:
- Take the core course – Foundations in Resuscitation Science Research MSC4001H (doctoral students who have already taken this course as part of their Master’s program are eligible to take the Advanced Topics course MSC4002H)
- Attend at least 75% of the Graduate Seminar Series
- Present their research at least once (Masters level) or twice (Doctoral level), at either the Resuscitation in Motion (RiM) scientific meeting or in the Foundations MSC4001H core course.
Required course work for MSC4001H includes:
- 2 x 2500 word research papers (December and April)
- 1 x oral presentation (10 minutes max)
- 1 x assisting faculty member to prepare and present a seminar (assigned faculty and pre-determined topic)
